Marita Kirk

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Marita B. Kirk, 66, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, at Rollie Mortuary. The Rev. Husky Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rollie Mortuary.

Kirk died March 12, 2011, in Albuquerque. She was born May 21, 1944, in Naschitti, into the Towering House People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Kirk received her high school diploma from Intermountain High Schoool. She was very active within the Navajo Code Talkers Association and helped organize events including oversea trips and volunteering with parades. She was the wife of Navajo Code Talker George H. Kirk.

Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Sandoval, Genrita Devaney, Thyra Alcaraz, Sabrina Leyba; brothers, John C. Begay Sr., Eddie C. Begay, Alfred C. Begay, Joel C. Begay, Phillip C. Begay, Neilwood C. Begay; sister, Martha C. Begay; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Kirk was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Kirk; parents, Grace and Marvin Begay, Ethel and Chadiclaw Begay; brother, Elwood Begay; sister, Katherine C. Begay.
Pallbearers will be Johnson Sandoval Jr., Michael Sandoval, Joseph Garcia, Michael Begay, Leffew Yazzie, Joel C. Begay.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Naschitti Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Morgan

CROWNPOINT — Funeral services are pending for Charles Morgan, 97.

Morgan died March 13, 2011, in Crownpoint. He was born April 17, 1914, in Dalton Pass.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Pickering

GALLUP — Memorial services for Robert Owen Pickering, 91, will be 5-7 p.m., March 16, at 513 Rocco Circle, Gallup.

Pickering died March 8, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Framingham, Mass.

Pickering had a bachelors in science. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He taught school in Cumberland, Wis., Delauan, Wis., Wingate and Cedar Creek, Ariz., where he retired after 20 years.

Survivors include his son, Robert Pickering II; daughters, Bobbie Armijo of Albuquerque, Cassie Pickering of Gallup, Evanglyn Roehrig of Gallup, Anglyn Roehrig of Whiteriver, Olivia Kane; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Pickering was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice; brothers, John and James; sisters, Betty and Peg.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 513 Rocco Circle, Gallup, following services.

Roger Plummer

SUNDANCE — Services are pending for Roger Gilbert Plummer, 57.

Plummer died Sunday, March 13, 2011, in Gallup. He was born July 2, 1953, in Fort Defiance.
A family will receive relatives and friends 5 p.m., today, March 15, at Churchrock Chapter House.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Jose Rodriguez

GALLUP — Services are pending for Jose Ramon Rodriguez “Flaco”, 64.

Rodriguez died March 12, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Mexico.
